So, in conjunction with the series 30th anniversary this year, BMW is going to release special versions of the series R1200 GS, R1200 GS Adventure, F800 GS and F650 GS models specially to celebrate the achievement. Each of these special edition models are draped with the historical BMW Motorrad Motorsport color of the R80 G/S that dominated the Paris-Dakar Rally back in 1980’s.
“Looking back in time in 1980, BMW Motorrad decided to embark on an entirely new territory with the introduction of the R 80 G/S. The motorcycle was created to offer a combination of on-road touring and off-road qualities without compromise in everyday use. The motorcycle won its very first race in 1981 and even shined its way to victory at the prestigious Paris – Dakar Rally. This was soon to be the first in a line of many great successes in motorsport celebrated by BMW Motorrad and the GS.” – Fazli Shukor, BMW Motorrad Manager, BMW Group Malaysia.
“Throughout the last thirty years, BMW Motorrad has consistently nurtured the outstanding talents of the GS boxer models, focusing on riding dynamics, off road qualities, superior comfort and endurance, whilst at the same time consistently enhancing the overall appeal of the motorcycle to an even higher level.” – Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director, BMW Group Malaysia.
